What Is a Flexi Personal Loan?

Flexi personal loans let you borrow from a sanctioned limit as needed. Here is how they generally work, what they cost and what to check before choosing one.

What flexi personal loans are

A flexi personal loan is an unsecured loan where the lender sanctions a limit instead of disbursing the full amount at once. You withdraw funds from that limit when needed and can usually prepay and re-draw within it during the tenure.

How they generally work

  • The lender sanctions a limit and tenure based on your eligibility.
  • You withdraw part or all of the limit as needed.
  • EMIs are calculated on the amount used; some products start with interest-only EMIs.
  • Part-prepayments reduce the amount used and free up the limit again, where allowed.

Interest calculation

Interest is generally charged only on the amount withdrawn and for the period it is outstanding. The rate itself depends on your profile and the lender. Compare the rate alongside all charges before choosing.

Fees

  • Processing fee
  • Annual or maintenance charges, where applicable
  • Charges on withdrawals, part-payments or bounced EMIs, as per the lender's schedule
  • Stamp duty and GST

Withdrawal and reuse mechanics

Withdrawals are usually made through the lender's app or website to your linked bank account. Repaid amounts may become available again, subject to the product's limit schedule — some limits reduce over time as the tenure progresses.

Important lender-specific conditions

The length of any interest-only period, limit reduction schedule, charges, minimum withdrawal amounts and eligibility rules differ between lenders. Check the sanction letter and key fact statement before accepting.
